Joshua Slocum (February 20, 1844 – on or shortly after November 14, 1909) was a Canadian-American seaman and adventurer, a noted writer, and the first man to sail single-handedly around the world. In 1900 he told the story of this in Sailing Alone Around the World. He disappeared in November 1909 while aboard his boat, the Spray.

The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (CCGA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to Search and Rescue (SAR) and safe boating activities.

Our mission is to provide a permanent day and night search and rescue service to cover marine requirements in Canada and prevent the loss of life and injury.

  To fulfill this mission, our objectives are to :

  • Save 100% of lives at risk;
  • Reduce the number and severity of SAR incidents;
  • Promote marine safety;
  • Support the Canadian Coast Guard;
  • Provide a humanitarian service; 
  • Maintain the highest professional standards;
