Marcus Cunliffe

 

Marcus Cunliffe (b. 1922 [1]) is a British historian and academic, who has written on topics mainly concerning America.

Education

Cunliffe was educated at Oxford, Sandhurst and Yale [2].

Career

Cunliffe lectured at the University of Manchester and the University of Sussex, where he was Professor of American Studies; he was also a visiting professor at Harvard[3].

Personal life

In 1949, he met and married American sculptor Mitzi Solomon. Together, they had a son and two daughters (one of whom is Shay Cunliffe, CDG Award winning costume designer). They divorced in 1971.
