Joseph Conrad – Biography Joseph Conrad, born in Berdychiv, Ukraine as Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski on December 3, 1857. To this day, Conrad is considered to be one of the greatest novelists to write in the English language even though he did not speak English fluently until his twenties. Joseph joined the British merchant marine in 1878, in which he was employed for 16 years, and ultimately influenced his works. Joseph’s most prominent works include short stories and novels like Lord Jim, Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent.
