Charlotte Brontë, the eldest of the three Brontë sisters, was an English novelist and poet born on April 21, 1816, in Thornton, Yorkshire, England. Brontë published her first novel, Jane Eyre, in 1847 which is still viewed as a literary classic. Charlotte Brontë’s other celebrated novels include Shirley and Villette.
