US Says Iraq Unrest At Four-Year Low
 BAGHDAD (AFP) - Violence across Iraq hit a four-year low last week and US and Iraqi military operations have Al-Qaeda on the run, the US military said on Sunday, but warned the jihadists remained a lethal threat.
"Iraqi-wide we have seen a significant reduction in violence in the past week," US military spokesman Rear Admiral Patrick Driscoll told reporters, adding: "Security incidents decreased to a level not seen since March 2004."
He said the US internal system of monitoring violence levels showed a significant decrease in the number of incidents. Full Story |

Iran Nervously Watching Syria-Israel Talks
 The news that Israel and Syria had agreed to indirect talks was initially greeted with resounding silence in the Iranian press.Finally, on May 22 - a full day after the talks made international headlines - Tabnak news, which is affiliated with the former Revolutionary Guards commander Mohsen Rezai, decided to break the story.
In a short piece describing the planned negotiations, it tried to calm Iranian concerns by saying that Syria had not agreed to break off relations with Iran as part of the price for peace with Israel, as called for by Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. Full Story |
